White Collar Boxing Cardiff

Boxing Cardiff

Impressed to have raised to date £770 for Cancer Research! Just Giving Link here!

I had an absolutely AMAZING night Boxing in Cardiff and you can see footage of the fight below.

My opponent was more experienced than I and came away with a win on points, but it has been a great learning experience and I am signed up to the March event already!

I would like to thank everyone who supported me to help UWCB raise over 2.7 MILLION this year for the charity. I think that’s an achievement right there!

Have a great Christmas and a fantastic New Year!

It’s the final countdown !

It’s the final countdown…

Duh duh duhhh duhhh, duh-du-dududuuuuhhhh…

final countdown

Sing along..

Ok so we have completed the last week of training, today I have just 5 sleeps left until the big day!

Last week I stepped training up even more and I feel awesome. I now understand that moment where Rocky runs up the steps and shouts and jumps around! I get it. He’s worked his ass off and now he is fitter than ever, feeling truly ready!

Muscle Pharm bars have been a massive feature in my diet, got to love Cardiff Sports Nutrition being a few buildings away from work!

Last week was good eating, (mostly) hard training and lots of thinking time.

In fact yesterday I was sparring with myself (shadow boxing) in a ring, and between each round I was just sitting down, picturing the day, learning to focus.

It’s all in the mind now as I prepare for the big day.

Some highlights from last weeks training include work with Aaron from Pro Fitness gym who put me through some pad work. Check him out if you are interested in learning to box. He knows his stuff.

Yesterday I put a two minute timer on, and moved around the ring, for every ten punches I threw I made myself do a burpee and run to a corner, good fitness and also learning to move around the ring using the proper footwork. For rest my timer was set to 45 seconds, forcing my body to recover quicker on match day hopefully.

The week ahead brings matching and finding out my opponent on Tuesday, followed by my last training session Thursday morning, before a relaxing couple of days until Saturday at 3pm where I head for the final medicals and to get into the venue and prepare.

Once again I thank everyone for their support, fundraising, training help, training buddying, and for all those who have rallied round.

I am ready.

See you at the event if you are there!

Don’t forget I am still collecting, – it is all for Cancer Research.

Days 36 – 50

Days 36 – 50

Well the last two weeks have been intense. Work, training and clients have all built up and I have been very busy, hence missing a week!

That coupled with some trips away to London, to see Mumford and sons in Cardiff and a few visits to relatives I am shattered!

Training has continued strong and I have also been working with a boxing coach Aaron from Pro Fitness gym, as well as continuing some sessions with Elliot.

I don’t have much more to say other than it’s been hard work and brutal, and as my mother always says when I am talking too much..

“Shut up Paul.”

So I will. I will try to update the blog as more happens but for now I just want to thank everyone for the massive support, getting me over £300 for Cancer Research.

Days 29 – 35

Days 29 – 35

Days 29 – 35 – Well we have passed the half way mark, and nearly half of the boxers that started seem to have dropped out, some new ones have arrived, but the others may come back.

Sparring sessions have started to intensify and get harder, more challenging and sometimes less fun (after a few punches to the head it’s not as fun)!

Days 22 – 28 – Half Way

Days 22 – 28

We are now half way there. End of Week 4. As the days went up 22 – 28 I thought my nerves would start to kick in … but you know what, as I learn more, become fitter, start to understand more, I am feeling more and more happy to step into that ring. (more…)

Days 15-21

Days 15-21 of the White Collar Boxing Training

Days 15-21 I took the opportunity to ease off a bit and have some rest days, which are vital for the body to recover and repair and prevent injuries.

I took a couple of days off on the Monday and Tuesday and went back at it on the Wednesday.

Days 8-14

Days 8 – 14 of the Boxing Training!

Sorry that this one is a bit late, you will see why soon!IMG_4981

So week 2 begun with high intensity and finished exactly the same! I have learned a lot more sparring skills and I really hope that I can transfer that into my training and be ready for this fight!

I will briefly do this week as I am running out of time!

Here are days 8-14.

Week 2 started on Monday with a bang. Up at 6am to push my body and mind hard! I did some sprint interval training. Lunch time was skipping work to increase my coordination and speed.

Tuesday I did an ab session in the gym lunch time and worked on punch power by doing press ups to failure, then lying on my back and throwing a medicine ball up into the air with one hand, repeating on other side and then both hands.

Wednesday was a lunch time abdominal circuit and then double boxing in the evening. I must say after doing an ab workout lucnhtime I soon regretted this when I was at UFC. So week 3 I am doing nothing before training let me tell you! My body was pushed hard, and I worked as hard as I could! Train hard, fight easy!

Thursday was morning HIIT, lunch time spar with a colleague in work. It was good to try and work out things like defense and attack one on one and being all about me. As selfish as that sounds, at UFC you both need to learn so you can’t concentrate on yourself. So it is nice to do this one on one stuff with someone who isn’t going to be fighting.

Friday was going to be a rest day… but I got restless and went to the gym with Sarah who is a great training partner as you can see from this picture below.

We worked on some speed work, coordination and balance and did an ab circuit. We also messed around a bit trying out some equipment like trampolines… You have to enjoy training!

Saturday was back at UFC gym for more boxing. I really enjoyed this session, they are starting to take shape now, we warm up quickly with a bit of a fitness circuit, then use the pads, and then we spar.

I went to SwaIMG_5066nsea to train with Elliot who is Wales ranked number 1 MMA fighter in his class. He took me to the Exercise4Less gym in Swansea and showed me some padword and sparring drills. I thank you Elliot for that, I learned a massive amount.

Highlights of the week are definately finding Dr Zaks Protein and having a Nandos with some old friends!

You will see week 3 started with two days rest to allow the body to recover!

Days 1-7

Days 1-7 – An Update

12109043_10208287602731360_7053076584093333938_nSo officially day 1 was Monday 19th. We had a meeting and welcomed everyone and blah blah blah.

But to me day 1 was Wednesday, where we actually got into the boxing gym properly and had a fitness beasting.

Some vomited, we all sweated. Seeing Denzil Lawrence the boxing coach walk around during sit ups and punching people in the stomach was an early introduction into the hell we will face over the next 8 weeks!
